2007 Season The Lions soccer team has started to a grand season, For a bit out of first place by just one point! Now in third place by a goal difference of 5! York Heat and Markham Oldtimers both teams whom have been yo-yoing back and forth between Div 1 and Div 2 of the Men's over 35's are still with in reach if the team knuckles down. Lions were challenged with injuries throughout 2007 and as a result had a tough year. George Turla passed away June 17 2007 at the age of 54 while playing a friendly game in the Gym. It is a season that has been diminished for some. George was not a current player for the Lions but was a number of years ago. George was a extraordinary person whom loved the game of "Football". I know that he would have wanted to go as he did playing the game he loved so much. Lions Past President and Past president of the YRSL had this to say about George: I first played with George Turla in 1991 along with Roger Edmunds and Jamie Forret, a couple of years later myself George and Roger traveled to New Jersey to play in a tournament with East Gwillimbury SC, we played under the name of Canada. When we came back we Roger, and I started a new team called Mt. Albert Lions, we tried to persuade George to come to play for us but he decided that East Gwillimbury was 'His' team. That about sums George up, he was an honest, loyal and trustworthy man as well as a great team player. I know he will be missed by many. However, George did play 2 seasons with Mt. Albert then he went back to his 'home' team East Gwillimbury Talons. Goodnight and God Bless George Alan Sutton 2006 Season Summary Finishing the season in 5th place out of 13 teams in the Men's Division 2 Over 35 the Lions are working their way up the league standings. "....2006 was a tough year with a lot of injuries, however team play and maintaining the pace ended the year favourably." Alan Sutton, founder and President of the Mt. Albert Lions Soccer Club since 1994 has decided to move to the Niagara region, thus stepping down as Club Chairman. Alan will retain a life membership and continue to support the team as a Club Director. "...on behalf of the MALSC players, management and friends we sincerely thank you for all of your contributions and will miss you in the coming season." 2005 Season Summary 2005 resulted in a positive year for the Lions. Finishing middle of the pack ending the season with 26 points. Fortunately no major injuries the team will return again in 2006. GREAT Season! ...well done. 2004 Season Summary The 2004 season was in many respects the start of a new era in Mt. Albert Lions Soccer Club; we turned 10 years old this year and celebrated with one of our best seasons since 1997. Finishing 4th.in the league, with only 1 point separating us from the second place team. Thanks go out to all the players in this year’s squad and especially to Coach Bill McInlay, Bill was an inspiration to the players especially the new players we signed this year. As a club we can only move forward and better ourselves for the 2005 season. As everyone knows dedication is major part of any sport and I am pleased to say we showed 100% some even gave a little more when needed. Besides dedication we showed team spirit and teamwork, we actually played as a team this year with moral at it’s highest since our glory days of 1997. Once again I would like to thank not only the players but the executive for an outstanding show of commitment in attending meetings, without the help of the executive running this club would be an even tougher task. I have been accused in the past of making decisions without consulting any other members yes; that is possibly true but in the past I have not had such a strong executive behind me as this one. It definitely makes my job easier as liaison to the league and other clubs when I can seek advice and guidance from the executive. This year we had the least goals scored against us in the division only 18 goals We managed to score 31 League Goals in 16 games and 13 Cup Goals in 4 games This season we had our smallest squad 23 players who consisted of: 5 Canadian, 4 English, 3 Romanian, 2 Irish, 1 Welsh, 1 German, 1 Pole, 1 Slovenian, 1 Croatian, 1 Dane, 1 Adel and of course every one needs a token Italian and not forgetting Bill McKinlay our Coach from Scotland who completes the set for the British Isles. We will all look forward to the 2005 season but next year we plan on bringing home some silverware. For
